About

hello! i’m kate

Comms Queen, Coffee addict

Way and Words, LLC was founded by long-time Communications and Marketing executive, Kate Bachman. (Hi! That’s me. I’m Kate.)

After nearly 20 years of working in both agency and in-house B2B tech environments, I realized how necessary strategic communications is. I saw it in the power of a thoughtful and differentiated brand. It was in increased productivity when teams had clarity and engagement, and in well-handled crisis situations, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational changes.

I built Way & Words to help organizations realize all of the benefits of true strategic communications and memorable brands, without the nonsense. My process is focused on market and data-driven audience understanding, disciplined storytelling, and strategies that are executable: Providing both the way and words to be successful.

What is Strategic Communications?

here’s my take …

  1. Strong communications is the foundation of everything because we work with and sell to human beings. Poor or thoughtless communications will result in inefficiency, misalignment and damage.
  2. Expertly managed channels and all the content in the world won’t matter is the story is boring, speaking to the wrong person or is confusing. Well told stories will keep a business in someone’s memory.
  3. Communications is a much a disciplined science as it is a creative process. A wonderful story still needs the right channels, mediums and frequency. It’s about balance.
  4. Strategy communications can include a lot: Public Relations, Social Media, Content, Internal Comms, Crisis Comms, Reputation Management, etc. It can look a bit different at every company.
